USB switch connectors
Switches usually come with a 3.5mm jack plug to connect them to a device. In order to connect this to a PC, you need an adaptor or connector. These adaptors are manufactured by Sensory Software. They will work with The Grid 2 by Sensory Software and other compatible prgrams.

[pictured above] This is a simple connector for 1 or 2 switches to the USB port. The JoyCable switch adaptor enables switch control of almost any switch controlled software on a PC. The cable has a USB connection at one end and connectors for standard 3.5mm jack switches at the other.
No drivers are needed to use the JoyCable with popular software such as The Grid, Clicker or Widgit software.
To allow the JoyCable to work with programs such as switch games, which often use keystrokes or mouse clicks as a switch input, we include the Sensory Software Switch Driver. Switch Driver can automatically monitor the switch software you are using, and provide the necessary input when a switch is pressed.

There are a number of USB switch connectors available from different manufacturers, and not all work in the same way. This information should help you to identify the switch connector you need.
Does it matter how it works?
- When you plug a USB device into Windows the USB device tells Windows what it is - keyboard, digital camera, joystick or whatever. Windows can then find the driver and install the device.
- A switch is not a recognised Windows USB device, and registering a new device is expensive, time consuming and a hassle for the users (who need to install extra drivers). Instead, the USB switch connectors that are available act as a keyboard or a joystick.
- This is important, because you must be sure that the software you are using supports the device the switch connector is emulating (keyboard or joystick). If it does not then check to see if the switch connector comes with software to make it compatible.
