GEWA page turner BLV-6D
This Page Turner is well used by those who have one, because they know it works!
It's Swedish design has remained relatively unchanged for more than 25 years, as it is a tried and tested product. It is not an 'automatic' page turner, but one which requires the user to 'drive' the rubber roller to manipulate the pages. Consequently pages of varying thickness and size can be accommodated without any adjustments or setting changes.
The Page Turner is controlled by 'driving' the roller through it's four functions. Various controls can be used including a joystick, 4-button switch, 4-plate switch, a 4-function sip/puff switch, and single switch with scan controller.
how it works
An attendant need only:
- Raise the outer plastic panels to insert the document.
- Secure its cover underneath the inner plastic panels.
- Connect and plug in the wall transformer.
- Connect and position the selected operating control.
The user manipulates a mechanically driven rubber roller through four(4) simple manoeuvres to complete the page turning. Good cognitive ability is generally required for effective operation. The user quickly learns to play the roller in small increments in all four movements to achieve the desired results. It is this ability to manually manipulate the roller that helps the user work out common turning problems such as sticking or mis-angled pages. Driving the page turner involves the following steps:
- Select function 1 to drive the roller to the right across the document to a point of sufficient roller grip.
Roller positioning varies depending on the overall page size, thickness and texture.
- Select function 2 for clockwise roller rotation to scoop or pull a single page forward until it actually flips forward of the roller.
- Select function 3 for counter-clockwise roller rotation to flatten the underside pages so they are not inadvertently creased or folded during the next step.
- Select function 4 to drive the roller to the left across the document until the page is completely turned. Generally, the roller is then brought back to the centre of the document to clear the page being read.
If the centre margin is narrow and the roller obscures the print, move the roller to the opposite page of the one being read.
To turn pages backward, just reverse the above process: 4-3-2-1!

- a rubber roller manipulates pages forward and backward, singly or continuously.
- no adhesives or tapes are used.
- a collapsible tripod is built in for upright table rest.
- adjustable clamps are built in for attaching to the LB-2 Overbed Table or other support framework.
- a carrying handle allows instant transport.
- maintenance | the neoprene roller requires regular cleaning with turpentine or methylated spirits and a lint-free cloth such as CHUX.
- accessing options | several 4-function controls are available to accommodate a wide range of physical abilities.
The joystick has 4-functions in a North-South-East-West configuration. The joystick is pictured above and below. It is supplied with a mount and table clamp. Diameter of cylindrical base is 40 mm. Actual length of joystick component is 40 mm long.

The 4-push-button and 4-plate switches are other popular controls. These measure 120 x 65 x 33 mm and have an operating force of 40 gm. The 5-slot control (pictured above) consists of 5 large switches for control with foot or gross movement. It measure 480 x 150 x 80 mm and weighs 2 kg. Force required is 150 gm.
There is also a 4-function sip-puff switch. This switch does not require scanning, but instead uses two strengths of sip (air intake) and two strengths of puff (expelled air) to control each of the 4 functions.

The scan controller is fitted to the page turner to provide single switch control with scanning. Scanning can be set to momentary or latching and scan speed is varied on the controller.

The scan controller is not required for the 4-function sip puff switch. This uses two strengths of sip and two strengths of puff to operate the 4 functions of the page turner.

The page turner can also be operated wirelessly, via a PROG. The IR-receiver (pictured above) is required and a PROG. Please see the pages on these items.
